Neva Failin’ and Spring Urban Fest were just warming up this year before the Covid-19 pandemic struck the nation.

The community means everything to this young artist/entrepreneur. He understands that we are nothing without a bright set of youth to take over from where we’ve started and always pushes his initiative for positive things in the community. His best way to explain his drive was, “When you come from the bottom you can’t wait to show people how to reach the top, team work makes the dream work.”

With his principles in place, he and his organization Spring Urban Fest set the stage by putting together a “No Bullying School Tour” that kicked off fall of 2019 and really began to ramp up at the beginning 2020. The tour hub would be in Atlanta and surrounding counties but was growing massive nationwide recognition fast. The feeling of seeing so many excited youth would be like no other for he and his organization. Bringing that much joy to poverty stricken communities was almost addicting for his team, they would sometimes host multiple Metro Atlanta schools in a single day.

As a youth Neva Failin or better known as Jermaine Murphy to his peers and classmates was not able to go to an official concert until he was the age of 18 due to family finances. The ability to show the youth that they were a few steps away from being who they only dreamed of being is a gift he loves sharing with the world. He sums the feeling up the best,”Watching BET and MTV growing up made artists and entertainers seem like mythological characters, but in retrospect the work you put in determines the success you gain. So the first step in gaining great belief is having great examples and interactions.”

No two schools are ever the same, the schools can be located minutes away from each-other and have totally different means to an end, and these means are always exemplified through the faculty and the students. Though a lot of inner city schools get a bad rep of deviance, you’d be surprised how things totally differ when the appropriate reward systems are put into place to encourage order for great opportunities. Unlike his youth, technology was not nearly as prevalent as it is today in schools, it seemed as if every student possessed a cellphone which was very rare in his youth. For Neva Failin, technology is very inspiring, of course upon how it is implemented. He explains “Before the students assemble into the auditorium/gyms we encourage the faculty to monitor cellphone usage during our guest speakers presentation, this is undoubtedly the most important function of our platform. This presentation is always geared towards giving the students a real life example of well known influencers that had to over come great obstacles and negativity to stay positive and strive for better for them and their families”.

Neva Failin’ Performing at a School

All tour dates start with a brief introduction from the guest host, normally a local radio personality or a celebrity influencer. Following the host introduction there is an ice breaker segment where the Spring Urban Fest staff chooses random students to play some type of teamwork game or compete in a challenge to win prices given by our sponsors. Neva Failin states “You’d be surprised how students take great directions when an IPhone or a laptop is at stake.” Following the ice-breaker is the guest speaker portion in-which the organization picks the best candidate to inspire the youth from their stories of hard work, obstacles and what success followed. Of course a tour is not the same without the performers. To sum everything up, they began to announce our performances and watch the kids go into pandemonium. Normally there could be anywhere from 5–8 performance pending on the allotted pep rally time given by the school’s administration.

Neva Failin and Spring Urban Fest have had the honor of bringing talents like Skooly, King Imprint, Luh Dino, Mak Sauce, The Wicker Twinz, Supa Peach, Chy The Greatest, Mad Marcc and many more notables acts to schools around the Metro Atlanta area. They will continue their efforts once schools are back in session.
