“The hardest things for me to write about are generic things, such as using guns or money. I am too prideful to fall into that same and repetitive topic these hip-hop artists usually talk about.” Bronx artist Fenzrir shared this thought in response to the challenges he has faced as a songwriter and an artist. Currently creating music that blends the genres of metal, rock, and hip-hop, Fenzrir is at the forefront of forming a brand-new subgenre in rap, and he is well aware of his position.

Music has evolved over generations by innovative artists exploring the genres that interest them and reflecting the sounds they create into new subgenres of the original. This can be seen in the formation of mumble rap or hyper pop in the recent decade. However, it can also be found in the music being created by Fenzrir. Redefining the world of trap-metal and rock-rap by way of his primal production and Corey Taylor vocal cadence, Fenzrir’s unique approach to his music has evolved into what is seemingly referred to as Viking rap.

The Bronx rapper’s most recently released project, the nine-track long Sun Eater, finds him mixing primal feeling, metal-rap production, and his seemingly screamo rap vocals. Resemblant of acts like Bring Me The Horizon and Hollywood Undead, the project offers new soundscapes that may further these subgenres.

Fenzrir has also just been signed to Bentley Records out of New York City. With even more significant backing, the genre-mixing rapper is deep into work on his upcoming EP, which has been building a high amount of buzz. Fans and critics alike are looking forward to the project’s release and hearing just how Fenzrir builds upon his new genre of Viking-Rap.
