From the Bay Area of California, Marcus432 is living out his dream of being a recording artist and producer. The creative has gotten the opportunity to go on tour with the famous artist Blueface. We got to interview him below.

Interview

Where are you from?

“I was born and raised in San Mateo, California.”

How did you get into music?

“I have always enjoyed hip hop but didn’t start getting interested in the production side of the industry until midway through high school. I felt inspired to start making my own music as soon as I heard some songs that a close friend of mine recorded in his home studio.”

What are the challenges of being an artist?

“Balancing music time with social life and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be difficult at times. I sometimes find myself working on music from morning to night without realizing that I haven’t taken any breaks. It can be tough maintaining healthy relationships because I find myself spending so much time on work that I don’t leave enough to check in with important people in my life.”

What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

“Overcoming my doubts about being a white rapper in a predominantly black culture. I was constantly worried that listeners wouldn’t take me seriously based on my skin color, even though I knew that I could rap just as well as the next guy. Being an upper-middle class white male, I always knew I was privileged and felt an uncontrollable guilt that I had it easier than others. Because of this, I felt like I needed to push out of my comfort zone and pursue something in a field where it felt like white people were at a disadvantage: the rap game. After making the decision to go “all in”, I was experiencing anxiety due to lack of confidence and fear of entering an unknown industry. The only way I was able to overcome these negative thoughts (without abusing substances) was through guided meditation. It helped and still helps me keep my mind right through hectic times. Although there have been bumps in the road, it feels great to be an underdog and I have no regrets with my decision to pursue my dream. Today, after overcoming my anxiety, I feel I have earned my spot in the hip hop community and will continue to give back and share my knowledge to people who are trying to find their place in the music industry.”

Who inspires you the most musically?

“Tough question, I’ve been inspired by so many different artists. To name a few: Mac Miller, Logic, Drake, J Cole, and Marlon Craft in no particular order. My first inspiration was Mac. Without him, I wouldn’t have nearly the same passion for music. He taught me that anything is possible if you have the right team around you and remain dedicated. After being exposed to Logic’s music, I fell in love with the old school hip hop sound (boom bap). I discovered I had a natural talent for memorizing lyrics and began rapping some of his most lyrically challenging songs word for word without making a mistake. The more I was doing this, the more motivated I became to start recording my own music.”

What is your greatest achievement as a musician?

“Receiving the opportunity to continue performing night after night opening for Blueface on his “Find The Beat” tour.”

Who is one artist you wish you could work with?

“I would’ve loved to work with Mac Miller, but since that’s no longer possible, it would be amazing to work on a concept song with Logic.”

Tell us about any new music you have coming out? When is new music coming out? What is it about?

“I have a collaboration song dropping on June 24th with 2sox regarding current events in the United States. If you’re reading this and it’s after June 24, go check it out!”
